Seville's Holy Week is the city's most important religious, cultural and artistic event, along with the Feria de Abril. In fact, the Holy Week of Seville is the most famous in Spain, and is considered a Festival of International and National Tourist Interest.
From Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday there are processions through the streets of Seville by more than 60 brotherhoods.
The highlight of Holy Week in Seville is the known as “La Madrugá” or The Early Hours, which is the morning of Holy Thursday and Good Friday. On Good Friday, men typically wear dark suits and women usually wear black mantilla.
During the various processions, it is common to hear Saetas, which are improvised religious songs that have their origins in Andalusian folklore. Although often performed anywhere during the procession of the brotherhood, the Saetas are more common when the procession reaches their parish.
